With a career spanning three decades, JOHN DAVIS (1936 - 1999) was one of Australia’s pre-eminent artists, a sculptor who regularly exhibited in Australia and overseas, particularly Japan and the United States. 

John Davis represented Australia at the Venice Biennale and the Indian Triennale in 1978, and the Osaka Triennale in 1992. Important solo exhibitions include a Survey show at the National Gallery of Victoria, in 1978, an exhibition in the gallery and grounds of Heide Park and Art Gallery in 1988, Landscape as Subject and Source at the Cheney Cowles Museum, Spokane, Washington, USA in 1994, and his final exhibition Koan: Nomads, Rivers and a Presence in 1998 at Robert Lindsay Gallery in Melbourne.
