MARINA ROLFE studied painting from the age of six in Moscow, which explains her impressive technique foundation. Since arriving in Australia in 2009, Rolfe has slowly unpacked the rigorous instruction she received as a young person, becoming a more intuitive and sensual painter. Every mark, every colour in Rolfe’s work feels selected and deliberate, yet they impart a tremendous feeling of spontaneity. Using select elements from real environments, Rolfe’s paintings are composed of many organic parts that slowly appear, disappear and re-emerge.
