DESMOND LAZARO has produced a pair of large paintings for the group exhibition, 'Avatar: Forms of Vishnu'. His new work included in this significant show depict his interpretation of the Hindu creation legend, the 'Churning of the Ocean of Milk'.
'Spanning 15 centuries of transformation, devotion and imagination, Avatar: Forms of Vishnu will be the largest presentation of South and Southeast Asian art shown at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in over 20 years, and the first Australian exhibition devoted to the Hindu deity Vishnu. Across many times, places and mediums, artists have reimagined Vishnu and his many avatars, giving form to one of the worldβs most enduring and richly visual traditions.' - Excerpt from exhibition text.
