Congratulations to GUAN WEI for being shortlisted for the Wynne Prize 2026 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
The Wynne Prize celebrates two major categories of art: Australian landscape painting and figurative sculpture. Diverse representations of Australia appear alongside the variety and ingenuity of contemporary sculpture.
Guan Wei’s work 'Becoming Landscape' merges elements of the Australian environment with Chinese culture, creating a layered and imaginative scene that reflects the artist’s cross-cultural experience. Through stylised forms and symbolic details, the painting explores themes of migration, identity, and cultural memory.
The prize opens at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on 9 May and runs until 16 August 2026.
