JANET LAURENCE opens her exhibition Plants Eye View at The Cat Street Gallery in Hong Kong on 26 September 2013.  The exhibition showcases Laurence’s latest body of work, combining scientific research and environmental imperative in poetic installations that simultaneously invoke the beauty and the tragedy of the natural world. Her artistic enquiries result in a spectrum of paintings, sculpture, photography and site-specific installations.

ANNE ZAHALKA

Mosman Art Gallery presents Middle Head: 33º 50' S, 151º 14' E.  

ANNE ZAHALKA is among fifteen established and emerging artists who explore the active and disused military sites at Middle Head, drawing on the past and contemporary heritage of the area.

NIKE SAVVAS

Nike Savvas, Epic 8000, glass and steel wire, approximately 336 cm wide x 600 cm long x 900 cm deep, 2013.

NIKE SAVVAS’ installation of glass, Epic 8000 has recently been unveiled in Nike Town, San Francisco.  The stunning installation was inspired by the marathon and its world record.  The current record for the marathon stands at 2 hours and 3 minutes, which is equivalent to 7380 seconds. Savvas has applied this data to her creation of Epic 8000, which consists of 7380, 4cm glass balls suspended from one another to form a prism. The exact positioning of the glass balls allows vector lines to be visually traced through the work, intimating movement and speed.

SAM SHMITH

SAM SHMITH has been selected as a finalist of the 2013 Bowness Photography Prize, presented by the Monash Gallery of Art. Together with 45 other finalists, Shmith's work was selected from 562 entries, resulting in the largest number of entries received in the history of Australia’s most coveted photography prize.

The winner will be announced on Thursday 3 October and the exhibition continues until 3 November 2013.

DANI MARTI

DANI MARTI will feature in the upcoming 2014 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Dark Heart, alongside over 25 of the country’s leading contemporary artists.  

The show explores political, psychological and personal thoughts of the hearts and minds of Australian society, through an array of mediums including photography, painting, sculpture, installation and the moving image.

The 2014 Adelaide Biennial is on 1 March until 11 May 2014.

EUGENIA RASKOPOULOS is in the running for The University of Queensland’s Artists’ Self-Portrait Prize 2013, remix.post.connect. The show runs from 19 October through to 16 February 2014, and explores the artists’ impulse to often manipulate aspects of self, through a range of media and various approaches that do not always conform to traditional notions of self-portraiture.

PETER DAVERINGTON’s exhibition From the Future with Love at ARC ONE (05.03.13 – 06.04.13) has been reviewed in ARTnews U.S.A., the oldest and most widely circulated art magazine in the world.

“The architectural elements in Daverington new paintings fracture into reflective splinters, which appear to shatter the painting’s surfaces to expose the underlying canvas while also disrupting our view of his idyllic landscapes.

LYDIA WEGNER

LYDIA WEGNER is a finalist in the 2013 The Keith & Elisabeth Murdoch Travelling Fellowship (for Art). 

The Fellowship is provided to enable graduates from VCA, School of Art from the Faculty of VCA and MCM to travel abroad and enjoy a measure of financial support during the early years of their professional careers. It is offered biennially in odd years (2011, 2013, etc.), and culminates in the biennial Keith and Elisabeth Murdoch Fellowship Exhibition, held in the Margaret Lawrence Gallery.

This exhibition will be held 3-12 October 2013.

With his work My Sad Captain, DANI MARTI has been named as a finalist in the 2013 Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize. The exhibition will be launched on Friday 25 October 2013 and will be open to the public from 26 October to 10 November.

The Blake Society, named after the visionary artist and poet, William Blake, is a non-profit organisation that administers and manages the annual Blake Prize and Exhibition program for contemporary art and poetry, exploring themes of spirituality, religion and human justice.

PAT BRASSINGTON

PAT BRASSINGTON’s exhibition In search of the marvellous opens at Contemporary Art Spaces Tasmania in Hobart on August 30, and will be on display until October 6, 2013. This exhibition invokes a dialogue between new works and images from Brassington's archives, such as the iconic A Heartbeat Away.

DANI MARTI has been selected to feature a video work alongside 23 other artists from around the world, in the exhibition VIDEONALE. 14 on Tour. The exhibition is in Moscow from 18th-24th September 2013, at The Central House of Artists.

This is an outstanding achievement for Dani as his work was selected from over 2000 applications received from 70 countries.

JULIE RRAP’s public commission for the Façade Project at La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre in Bendigo was unveiled on Thursday 22nd August 2013. The work, 14-metre-wide by 4-metre-high, is part of her photographic series OuterSpace (2010). “I think this is a very exciting extension of the work into real space”, says RRAP.
